Hearts of Oak suffered a setback in their Ghana Premier League title chase after going down 1-0 to Debibi United in their Matchday 9 clash at Debibi Presby Park on Sunday.
Sarkodie Demetrous proved to be the difference between the two sides, finding the back of the net in the 51st minute. The forward capped a neatly constructed attacking move by calmly guiding the ball beyond the onrushing Benjamin Asare.
The defeat brought an end to Hearts’ three-match winning streak and cost them their place at the summit of the league standings. The Phobians now sit third, having missed the opportunity to consolidate their position at the top.
Despite showing flashes of promise, Hearts struggled to impose themselves in midfield, where Debibi enjoyed greater control and dictated much of the contest. The visitors also lacked the cutting edge in the final third, failing to fashion enough meaningful chances to force their way back into the game.
For Debibi United, the result was a timely boost following their defeat to Bechem United. The victory lifts them out of the relegation zone and offers renewed belief as they seek to climb further up the table.
Debibi will aim to build on the result when they travel to face Dreams FC, while Hearts will have an opportunity to bounce back against Heart of Lions in their next league assignment.
