FC Samartex strengthened their push for the top of the Ghana Premier League table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars in Sunday's Western derby at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.
Christian Agyenim Boateng scored the only goal of the encounter in the 25th minute, rewarding Samartex's positive start and handing the home side their third consecutive victory at the venue.
The Timber Giants took control early and made their pressure count when Boateng found the breakthrough midway through the first half.
Gold Stars improved after the interval and stepped up their search for an equaliser, but Samartex's defence held firm to preserve the lead and claim maximum points.
The result extends Gold Stars' winless run in Samreboi to three visits, leaving Petros Koukouras' men frustrated after their previous 2-1 triumph over Heart of Lions.
For Nana Kweku Agyemang's side, the victory lifts Samartex to second place with 18 points, level with league leaders Medeama SC, as the race for the top spot gathers pace.
Samartex will now turn their attention to an away trip to Bechem United, where they will seek to maintain their momentum and keep the pressure on Medeama.
Gold Stars, meanwhile, have an opportunity to return to winning ways at Dun's Park when they welcome Aduana FC in their next fixture.
